Some will not like this book or it's advice but if you read it over & over it will make a lot of sense. The plan is not meant to be forever but a short time until you reach your goal weight. Cannot believe how much it helped after years & years of trying & failing diets. Have lots of respect for Dr. Lewis.I have become accustomed to portions that are large, and even though I eat an extremely health-promoting diet in terms of food choice, have been so concerned with chasing nutrients that I am afraid to eat less, even though I know intellectually (it's there in the peer-reviewed research) that a lower BMI would be more health-promoting. I have never followed this diet as written, but it has calmed my brain about moving to a much more normal portion size that enables me to lose weight, and has gotten me over the anxiety that when there is a temporary discomfort in the first few days of eating less, this does not signal some dire emergency. I have found reduced portions to be invaluable in helping me feel less weighed down digestively by excess food and putting eating into a more reasonable place in my world.I have friends who have struggled with anorexia, and knowing how they have come so close to death from denying themselves food, I worry about someone prone to that coming across this book. However, that has never been a tendency of mine and in my experience of the book, has only allowed me to calm my fears about reducing my portions to a size that while actually more healthy, previously gave me anxiety about nourishment. This book has helped me, and I'm glad it exists. It IS expensive for what is slight content in comparison to what you usually get for a price like that, but the slight content is actually nice as it's not overwhelming to read and reread, and I've been continually glad I paid the money to allow me to make that mental shift and for the reminder whenever I need it.I read about this diet on a wesite slamming it on how terrible it was. I then noticed that the author of the article had not read the book, or even tried the diet for more than a single day. I figured this person didn't do enough research, so I decided to ignore her snark, and make my own decision. I read what the diet was in the article, basically eat 5 bites of whatever you want twice a day. That is pretty much it. I did this on my own (very loosely, maybe 3 or 4 days a week)without reading the book, and lost 40 pounds in 3 months. It was so easy, I did the 5 bites when I could, and ate "whatever" amount of bites on the days I felt like it. The days I stuck to the 5 bites kept my hunger down, (he said it shrunk the stomach, so to speak) so i felt full quicker, and ate less on days when I didn't "count my bites" naturally. I weighed myself every day on the days after I ate what I wanted, and when I saw a gain that was more than I wanted, I would do 5 bites twice a day untill it was off. I maintained my weight using this method for the past 7 months, typically having to count bites for a day or two every week or two to keep myself in check. Not bad at all! Nothing like obsessing over food and calories like I had on other diets. I absolutely love it, it works great for me.So, to the actual book review. The book is super short, almost like a pamphlet. It can be read in under an hour. As I said the diet is 5 bites of anything twice a day, so there's really not much to write about. He pretty much answers the questions that everyone is bound to ask:Arent you hungry? For the first day or two, yes. But it goes away, just like any other dietIt sounds so unhealthy, is it? Well, it could be, depending on what you eat, but it is meant for short term. He is a doctor who has done studies on his patients, some who ate snickers exclusively, and has all sorts of labs and collected data to show what happened to their health while eating this way. (their health improved, even eating junk food for a few weeks straight)Can you do this for a long period of time? In the book he has patients who did it for months. As I mentioned, the book is just for reassurance for the "this can't be right" feeling. Not much info, but I find it helpfull to read through on days I want to stay motivated. $25 for a paperback book less than a quarter inch thick, with HUGE type seems crazy, But $25 to keep me motivated to lose 50 pounds (i'm going to lose 10 more) is well worth it.Diet plan works! fast it’s Hard but if you stick to it past 4 days all the other days will feel like a breeze.Mistake I see people often make in this diet is taking acv counting calories consuming extra supplements green juicing or sneaking extra bites.Stick to the plan entirely and it will work. If your already slim you should stick to eating only 1 time per day =5 bites. instead of eating 2 times a day of 5 bites that = 10. Follow the dr.lewis advice in the book. Don’t listen to nay sayers diet in silence. This is just like the omad but eating 5bites once or twice per day insures that you accurately loose weight quickly. Don’t play around Get on it loose the weight and get off. Fail proof with out counting calories. Diet not meant for long term imo. I lost 20lbs from that diet then went on to something else for long term and lost weight as well been at 120 for some years now but I will post some old pics of when I started 5 bite. Tip if you limit the zero calorie drinks and only have water you can loose 2 pounds per day. Eating protein as your 5 bites helps to keep you satisfied but after 4 days your hunger stat gos away no matter what you eat.I never write a review. But I want people to know that this portion control 5 bite diet really works I had these last 5 stubborn pounds for many years, took it off in a week. Now I feel so empowered that I have this tool with me which I can use at anytime and feel more in control of my weight rather than weight controlling me. So please give it a try even if you fail at first time , don’t give up. Try again or modified the bite acc to your need. It works !!!!I'm so thankful I stumbled across this book! I have been trying to lose this weight for a few years now with so many different programs- (I gained after I quit nicotine and then entered menopause). I just keep gradually gaining. Finally someone who agrees that my weight should be 98 pounds!! Everywhere else states that at my age I should weigh much more. I'm most comfortable in my skin at 98. I had been shying away from extreme weight loss because of all the hype and misinformation. I'm going for it! Thank you Dr. LEWIS!!I tried the diet without reading the book and slipped quickly to LOTS of snickerbars. As a persistent bing eater it felt nice at first (the idea that Im allowed to eat chocolate on a diet) but then it stopped feeling right and felt unhealthy. So I stopped trying completely. The second try I gave it, was much better because I had read the book before. It contains huge amount of interesting information! BUT for me, and maybe just for me :), having 5 bites only twice a day is too little. I gave it a try for 5 days and it was getting a bit better on the fifth day but I felt hungry so oftent and drank too much coffee to escape my hungers. But I didnt leave the concept entirely! I just dont do 5 bites twice a day, I do 5 bites whenever my stomach is rumbling. If I need to taste something inbetween, I have maximum of two bites, usually just one to calm me down. It seems to be working great for me and helped me with my evening binges a LOT. I dont binge anymore.I gave the book 4 stars because Im not a fan of putting your body under such stress when eating 5 bites just twice a day. I understand that it is supposed to melt your fat away and IT DOES! But in my case I dont need such a rapid weightloss and I dont want to sacrifice my health (even with recomended multivitamins). .On the other hand I know there are people out there who need to loose weight rapidly and then go for it. Thats fine with me but Im afraid of loosing my hair, vitamin defficiencies etc.The book is excellent in showing how to decrease the importance of food in your life. After being on it even for short time you realise the food was taking the best out of you. Suddenly you have more free time because you stop thinking about food all the time! It stops being stuck in your head 24/7. And for me that is the best benefint of the book because it is VERY FREEING.I’m so happy I finally bought this book! This Dr means business! He wants the weight off as quickly as possible and no pussyfooting around thank you! “Be like a Bear...” he advises “force” your body to take from those fat stores! Basically an overweight person has breakfast lunch and dinner already on their bodies! The body doesn’t care whether the energy supply comes fresh from food you’ve just cooked or the old food that’s still in your system in the form of fat! It’s not the weight on the scale as much as it’s the extra stomach fat which reveals your health condition! Oh it’s not healthy to force your body to eat it’s fats stores you say? Then why do top doctors recommend surgery for obese patients in order to force them to eat tiny amounts??? And drop the unhealthy weight as fast as possible! This doc tells it how it is and he tells the truth! I personally had to do a water fast to reset my hungerstat because I just couldn’t stop myself from eating and extra bite! But once set it was easy! I noticed my body was happy and not REALLY hungry it was coping just fine chomping away on my stored fat! it was me who may have wanted to put extra in not my body! So you need to get over yourself on this diet! Drink coffee, surf the web, read, work, drink green tea, do whatever, just DONT EAT!returned. i am open minded but this is the biggest load of pull-fit i have ever read. the man is obsessed and encouraging dangerous habits. he is out to be a guru and make money. his book is published by lulu ! wonder why he couldn't get a publishing deal... not. it is cos this is just car crash reading. the thinner you are the more virtuous you are, apparently.one woman had a heart failure from this diet. the guy is treading very dangerous ground. eating two snickers a day, that''s it. for your food intake. that is what he recommends. he doesn't like being challenged and i pity him. it's all warped. but not as much as the people believing it, having heart failure and losing more and more hair. i really want to warn people off this book. i was horrified. and i have fasted in my time. but this diet- just, mad.OMG after 3 days this is easy as your hungerstat is set, wish I'd found this book years ago, Lost 10lbs in 2 weeks for me which is unheard of! Stick to 10 bites of anything and yes anything - we all eat too much - it works!it's been a great motivation for me, I understand that if I want to lose weight there is no other way that control what you eat!!
