Description
Amazon.com One among a field of up-and-coming U.K. producers--such as The Nextmen, Runaways UK, and Rae and Christian--Simon Gilbert and Julian Baker, a.k.a. the Creators, offer one more beat bridge across the Atlantic. While some of their British compatriots choose a jazzier approach, the Creators favor a harder edge, whether it's the dramatic bells of "The Music" (featuring El Da Sensei), or eerie clavinet stabs on "Kronkite" (featuring Phil Da Agony). Like many compilation-based projects, the scorecard gets a little overwhelming--over 15 artists to keep track of. As nice as their beats can be (check the uptempo vibe of "No Love" with F.T.), there's little consistency between efforts. Not helping much are the 13 skits that shatter the pacing of the album's song progression. Oddly too, the whole album seems U.S.-centric; no native U.K. MCs need apply. Overall, The Weight certainly has its moments but lacks the crucial chemistry to pull it all together. --Oliver Wang

The Weight is by the Creators a british hip-hop duo of producers. The album is produced by The Creators but has others rapping over there beats. The standout track on the album is definatley track 2, "The Music". It features El De Sensai of The Artifacts and the beat on this is pounding and El De Sensai blends in nicely, once you heard this track you will definatley be rewinding it. The track "Heart Pound" features Dilated Peoples and has again a nice beat and Evidence comes with some nice lyrics with DJ Babu being let loose at the end of the track to add some scrathces which, aint bad but could have been longer. Kronkite has Phil Da Agony from the Likwit Crew rhyming over the track. The production of Kronkite is probably the best on the album next to The Music featuring some violin samples. Hard Margin features Mos Def and Talib Kweli rapping on it for the second time on the album and has some nice lyics by Mos Def. Talib Kweli's verse is also not bad but the production gives this track a nice tone. Overall the album's production is nice as well as the lyrics the only problem is there is to many intrelude's which get a bit annoying as there is a song then an intrelude and this pattern is followed all the way trough the album.
